Zodiac Signs as songs by Delta Rae

Delta Rae is one of my favorite bands of all time and I have no qualms about that. In addition, I’ve been using categorizing the Zodiac Signs into different things as a writing exercise for years and now that I have my own blog, I have no qualms about doing so now, here, again. I’ve gone ahead and made every song title a hyperlink to a recording of that song.

Aries: Chasing Twisters

Passionate, angry, independence, makes you really feel like you have a surface level understanding of the difference between “country” and “western” also the damn thing goes Hard. Notable lyrics: “So kiss me now / there’s whiskey on my breath / feel the lives that I have taken / what little soul that I have left”

Taurus: Long and Happy Life

Comfortable but still upbeat, balances the feeling of a complicated past that’s eased into a steadier present. Makes you want to bake fresh bread while also scaling a mountain with the love of your life. Notable lyrics: “We knew it was our appointed duty to love like the world might end / and to toast to good nights with friends”

Gemini: Morning Comes

The sign of duality gets the song with the most goddamn upbeat catchy loveliness possible while having shockingly sober lyrics. The determined crux of the song is “wow life sure sucks right now but it HAS TO STOP SUCKING EVENTUALLY.” Notable lyrics: “Rain don't change the sun / jealous is the night when the morning comes”

Cancer: One Good Cry

Bottle of wine, sitting alone at home, and letting every single one of your feelings out belting along to every one of your favorite songs?? There really isn’t a whole lot else to say here. Notable lyrics: “Gonna revel in every regret, every memory / gonna let you take hold of me one last time / by tomorrow morning, I'll be pouring coffee and you'll just be history / I'll be strong, I'll move on”

Leo: Take Me There

80s sex positive anthem best sung by screaming at the top of your lungs in the middle of a crowd of other people doing the same. The album cover. The need to go for the LONGEST run after hearing this. Classic Leo. Notable lyrics: “So move with me / a little give and take / you better make some time / worship at my altar, baby”

Virgo: My Whole Life Long

Soft sweet love and gentle longing, it’s everything you can imagine yourself crooning to the person you care most for with some surprisingly intricate lyrics that you wouldn’t have expected and the opportunity to show off a little of your voice in the middle of said croon. Notable lyrics: “So don't leave me / say you need me / have a little faith in what we've made”

Libra: If I Loved You

Heartbreaker to the max while still trying so darn hard to let the other person down easily. A sharp flame that died out while the other person still held on paired with the unique sadness of not loving someone the way they want to and thus not wanting to hurt them makes this Libra. Notable lyrics: “And you deserve love, you're better than a good day / and you'll find it, but just not in my eyes”

Scorpio: Hitch a Ride

Ominous and hauntingly beautiful while so quintessentially American that it’s not hard to imagine Kissin’ Kate Barlow singing this song. Angry, seductive, and ultimately unforgettable. Notable lyrics: “There are two dead bodies buried in the clay / two souls that carried all of my love / and I'll run from the sin, and the law, and the devil / and judgement from the Lord above”

Sagittarius: Dance in the Graveyard

Not so much energetic as it is hungry. It is impossible not to tap a foot, a finger, anything along to this infectious beat because it’s so easy to follow and so easy to love. It marries the joy of life with the understanding of endings perfectly.  There’s a reason this song transitions so easily into “Wanna Dance With Somebody.” Notable lyrics: “Oh my love, don't cry when I'm gone. / I will lift you up, the air in your lungs. / And when you reach for me, / we'll dance in the darkness”

Capricorn: Do You Ever Dream?

Odd choice for this sign, but who else would have the depth of feeling and the honesty to address someone the way the lead does in this song? It’s the calm practicality of the “dad” of the zodiac juxtaposed with its sentimental heart. Notable lyrics: “Is it the sex and the comfort and the laughs that keep you coming back? / I hate to ruin the romance baby but I have to ask
Is there something I can't see?”

Aquarius: I Will Never Die

Dark and heavy, every part of your body feels more than it does within silence. The cryptic nature of insinuating that you won’t only rise from the dead but have already done so gives this a power few others can. Notable lyrics: “ When they call my name / Cast my shadow from a bellow's flame”

Pisces: Hey Hey Hey

Homey, lovely, and just a little desperate. This has the same aura of a day of rain stopping right at sunset in the middle of summer. Underrated but easily one of the greats and undoubtedly adored by anyone who encounters it. Notable lyrics: “Your window's open babe, but your doors are closed / you want a breeze to sweep in and shake your bones / but the sky is clear as day and the air is calm / So come on out and play I'm not here that long”

Everyone is Bottom of the River and Hands Dirty facts is facts.
